Why aren’t Vigilant humidors made of Spanish Cedar both on the inside and the outside?
While Spanish Cedar has traditionally been associated with humidors due to its pest-resistant properties and humidity regulation, we’ve opted to limit its use to custom orders. Spanish Cedar is classified under CITES Appendix II, indicating that it is endangered but not yet extinct. By restricting its use, we aim to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable forestry practices.
Furthermore, we now use mahogany as an alternative material. It provides comparable benefits for cigar storage, including maintaining proper humidity levels and resisting pests. These alternatives allow us to offer high-quality humidors while supporting global efforts to protect endangered species. For customers who prefer Spanish Cedar, we provide it on request through a carefully managed and responsible supply chain.
